Although not stricktly a Blue Plaque, this tablet was erected to commemorate the birthplace of George Robert Gissing born 1857 to Thomas and Margaret Gissing, who had recently purchased a chemists business at 55 Westgate. In more modern times the property numbers changed and 55 became 60 Westgate. George became well known in literary circles and his works are well known. George died in St Jean de Luz, France 1903.
